Each death is truly sad Sluggo and I honestly feel for the parents of the deceased. However, every soldier knows....or SHOULD know, the risk they are accepting when joining.
I did.
According to the internet 39 American Servicemen or women (probably young) have been killed since July 24, 2005. And all for what???? To impose democracy on people who don't seem to want democrasy? We are sending kids over there to die for that!

Sad but true Jumper. I think many who join for college tuition or training in certain fields dont take that into as much consideration as they should.
Just as every cop probably hopes he never is fired upon or has to fire at someone, it's a reality that is there and should be heavily considered when taking a job in policework.
A fireman has to know he will be dealing with fire and smoke and tough conditions as well.
My condolences go out to each and every family who lost someone in this war.
I know you are both right &, God knows, I worried enough about Matt when he was in the Navy back in 1988-1990 (for college tuition) & the U.S. was not even at war then. I can only imagine what the parents, wives & husbands are going through now. My heart aches for each & every one of the servicepeople, their parent & spouses. Sluggs, you are certainly entitled to your opinon and I'm with you on hearts going out to the families.
We have an all volunteer miltary (Thanks ALL!) and jump is right. One doesn't join without the knowledge that one might not come home. We lost almost 55,000 in Vietnam, because they weren't allowed to fight. Go see the Wall. My heart goes out to everyone who loses someone in battle. I've said it before and I'll say it again. If any branch of the military will take me at 51, I'll go. Gladly.
I hate to get into politics with you, Sluggo. I dearly love you. But you just aren't understanding that unless our military does something over there, we'll just have more terrorist attacks here.
And, a belated Happy Birthday. I sent you an email on Saturday.
gae - I did not get the e-mail.
About the war - I can understand that we are fighting terrorists in Afghanistan (sp.) & we should fight there but our president lied, repeatedly, about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. I realize that someone had to take saddam down but I would rather KNOW the truth about it. saddam did not have anything to do with (as far as I know) 9/11. But we (the Americans) could have been told the truth.
I am neither a Democrat nor am I a Republican!!! I do not believe in voting for a certain party. So don't go off on me. I merely like to be told the truth! And I know of NO truthful nor honest politicians. Amen!!!!
As for the war -- I think EVERY war is a tragic war. And when young Americans are giving their lives for us I am very, very grateful, BUT I am very sad about their loss of their lives & sorry for those left behind.

I am too reason!!!!!I am too!!!
Truth be told, even I thought we were being fed a line of US Choice bullshit vis a vis Iraq.
And I think what galls me the most is that the lies weren't even very good. It's almost like they thought we'd swallow anything they're dishing and couldn't really care about the small percentage that called bullshit on their lies. I think it's the arrogance of Bush (aka shrub, aka AWOL aka....you get the idea) et al that pisses me off the most.
BUT....we're there. We're in it. We need to win it. Unfortunately I have no idea how and neither does Washington.
